Wisely and slow. They stumble that run fast.

– William Shakespeare

Romeo and Juliet, Act 2, Scene 3. After Romeo rushes to Friar Laurence to ask him to marry his new-found love Juliet, the friar advises him to slow down and not rush into marriage. The wise friar cautions that those who rush into things tend to stumble and fall. This is foreshadowing of the couple’s tragic fate. The Friar’s words are also ironic, because he doesn’t follow his own advice when he presides over the couple’s quick and hasty marriage.
