The Odyssey, Book 12, lines 123-124. Odysseus challenges Circe’s advice that he must sail close to Scylla’s crag and lose six of his men, to avoid Charybdis killing them all. The Trojan War hero is a proud warrior, who believes in his ability to defeat both monsters without losing anyone.
