King Lear, Act 5, Scene 3. When Albany sneers at Regan that Edmund would surely look after all her rights completely if she married him, Regan makes this reply. She says that jesters often turn out to be prophets, meaning she does indeed intend to wed Edmund. Goneril and Regan are opening fighting over Edmund’s love at this stage. Regan’s line also reminds us of the great wisdom of the Fool, who offers more good advice than any other character in the play.
