Mina Murray Quotes

We are truly in the hands of God. Dracula, Chapter 26. Even in the face of the devilish Dracula’s attacks on her, Mina maintains her Christian faith. She believes they are in God’s hands and prays that He will watch over and project her husband Jonathan.

The Holy circle.

Dracula, Chapter 27. To protect Mina from a vampire attack on the way to Castle Dracula, Van Helsing draws a ring around where Mina sits by the campfire and sprinkles pieces of Holy Communion wafers along the circle. When Dracula’s three Brides visit, they cannot pass the "Holy circle" to get at Mina.

"Come, sister. Come to us. Come! Come!" In fear I turned to my poor Madam Mina, and my heart with gladness leapt like flame; for oh! the terror in her sweet eyes, the repulsion, the horror, told a story to my heart that was all of hope. God be thanked she was not, yet, of them.

Dracula, Chapter 27. The three Brides of Dracula appear as wheeling figures of mist and snow around Mina’s and Van Helsing’s campire. They then materialize into vampiresses and start beckoning to Mina to join them. Van Helsing describes the terror in her eyes and is thankful to God that she is not yet a vampire.

I seized some of the firewood which was by me, and holding out some of the Wafer, advanced on them towards the fire. They drew back before me, and laughed their low horrid laugh.

Dracula, Chapter 27. Van Helsing confronts the three Brides of Dracula with fire and Holy Communion wafer. The vampiresses attempt to get Mina to leave and "come to us." But she remains protected from inside the Holy ring which Van Helsing has created with the sacramental wafers.

But, on the instant, came the sweep and flash of Jonathan’s great knife. I shrieked as I saw it shear through the throat; whilst at the same moment Mr Morris’s bowie knife plunged in the heart.

Dracula, Chapter 27. Mina describes the killing of Dracula, when good finally triumphs in battle against evil. Quincey Morris stabs Dracula in the heart and Mina’s husband Jonathan cuts off his head. Dracula then crumbles to dust in his wooden box.

I shall be glad as long as I live that even in that moment of final dissolution, there was in the face a look of peace, such as I never could have imagined might have rested there.

Dracula, Chapter 27. Mina comments on the end of the vampire Dracula, as she sees her husband Jonathan cuts off the head and Quincey Morris plunge a knife into the heart. Happy to see Dracula at peace, Mina is an exceptionally forgiving and maternal person.

Now God be thanked that all has not been in vain! See! the snow is not more stainless than her forehead! The curse has passed away!

Dracula, Chapter 27. The last words of the dying Quincey Morris, as he gestures towards Mina’s face. With the defeat and killing of Dracula and his evil, the scar across her forehead disappears. The battle between good and evil has ended and good has triumphed once again!

We want no proofs; we ask none to believe us! This boy will some day know what a brave and gallant woman his mother is. Already he knows her sweetness and loving care; later on he will understand how some men so loved her, that they did dare much for her sake.

Dracula, Chapter 27. The final words of the novel, as Van Helsing pays tribute to Mina, while her son sits on his knee. He sums up her character perfectly – sweet, loving, brave and dedicated to the men who protected her.
