Twelfth Night, Act 2, Scene 5. Fabian calls Malvolio a woodcock, as in Shakespeare’s day woodcocks were known to be stupid birds and easily caught in a trap (“gin”). And the self-righteous Malvolio has just been caught in Maria’s trap.
