"Friend, you’re a new man – not what I saw before!
Your clothes, they’ve changed, even your skin has changed –
surely you are some god who rules the vaulting skies!
Oh be kind, and we will give you offerings,
gifts of hammered gold to warm your heart –
spare us, please, I beg you."

– Homer

The Odyssey, Book 16, lines 204-209. Telemachus says this to his father, who has been transformed from a beggar back to his normal physical self by goddess Athena. Despite the removal of Odysseus’ disguise, Telemachus believes that he is looking at a god and is both fearful of and reverential towards him. He promises to give offerings to appease this god and remain in his favor.
