On the tenth Achilles called all ranks to muster –
the impulse seized him, sent by white-armed Hera
grieving to see Achaean fighters drop and die.
The Iliad, Book 1, lines 62-64. Achilles can no longer wait for King Agamemnon to act to end the plague sent by the god Apollo, so on the tenth day his mother and queen of the gods Hera inspires him to call a meeting of the Achaean army. He suggests that a soothsayer be summoned to determine the cause of Apollo’s anger.
