The Iliad, Book 20, line 396. Achilles is disgusted when the mist clears from his eyes and he finds Aeneas gone, having been rescued from certain death by the god Poseidon. This shows that the mortals in The Iliad have no control over their fate with their choices, that is in the gift of the gods.
