The Grapes of Wrath, Chapter 2. Tom Joad is frustrated and annoyed at what he sees as the truck driver’s nosiness. He uses a simile to compare the driver’s big nose going all over him to a sheep in a vegetable patch. Freshly paroled Tom, affected by the isolation of prison, is touchy about a stranger’s repeated attempts to elicit information about him.
