The Grapes of Wrath, Chapter 16. Jim Casy being the philosopher looks at the bigger picture regarding the movement of so many migrants from their tenant farms towards California and the West. He prophecies that major changes will come about that will affect the entire country. He turns out to be right, as hundreds of thousands of people are displaced by the Dust Bowl, which prompts the largest migration in American history. Homelessness and poverty soar, unemployment increases, and relief measures have to brought in relief measures to help the suffering people.
