The Crucible, Act 2. Elizabeth shows her strength and courage when faced with trials and hardships as she says this to John. She has been arrested for alleged witchcraft and is about to be taken to jail. She thinks of her children first, not wishing want them to worry about her. The irony here is that she claims not to be afraid, but the stage directions state Elizabeth is in "great fear" while speaking this.
