The Catcher in the Rye. Chapter 11 is dominated by Holden talking about Jane Gallagher. He gets so depressed thinking of her date with Stradlater that he ends up going to a bar. Holden is struggling with growing up and is trying to hold on to these very special memories of innocence. This quote tells us that his relationship with Jane was nonsexual and that he cares about her on a deeper level.
