Cupid is a knavish lad,
Thus to make poor females mad.

– William Shakespeare

A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Act 3, Scene 2. Puck is saying that Cupid, the Roman god of love and desire, is a rogue who can drive some women crazy. This is ironic, since Puck is the mischievous one who been liberally sprinkling magic love potion on the eyes of the Athenian lovers, driving the men and women mad.
