She was mesmerising. She oozed sex and demanded a sexual response
from everyone. Time stands still for a superstar. I lost myself
in Madonna's attention, and by the end of the meal I had fallen
in love.
Rupert Everett
On Madonna, quoted in his 2006 autobiography
'Red Carpets and Other Banana Skins'. |
Getting locked inside a celebrity stronghold, an ivory tower,
is the death of creativity, and the unhappy lot of the rich
and famous. They lose themselves in the quest for security.

Along with the revelations of drug taking, which are supposedly
negative, come headlines about her lesbianism, as if that is
negative, too. It's shocking the way it is reported. What's
wrong with her having had sex with another woman?

The interesting thing about Sherlock is that he is himself
a reflection of that very English duality. As a drug addict,
he is a criminal. But he is also a crime fighter. That makes

On Sherlock Holmes - he played the famous
detective in the 2004 BBC TV movie 'Sherlock Holmes and the
Case of the Silk Stocking'. |

a room and touch things and actually see these sex crimes very
clearly.

One of the great things about having Madonna in the movie
is that most gay men probably would want to have sex with her.

On playing Madonna's gay best friend in
the 1999 movie 'The Next Best Thing'. |
It's amazing the clarity that comes with psychotic jealousy.

As Julia Robert's gay friend character
in 1997 movie 'My Best Friend's Wedding'. |
Playing a gay character and being gay was my gimmick of 1997.
And it gave me my little window of opportunity through which
I'm jumping with alacrity.

I don't want to just play gay characters, ... I think it would
get boring to play the same thing again and again and again.

I'm a sex machine to both genders. It's all very exhausting.
I need a lot of sleep.
