Romeo and Juliet, Act 1, Scene 2. Inviting Paris to his feast, Capulet uses a metaphor to compare the beautiful ladies who will be there to "earth-treading stars" that will light up the night sky. The symbolism of light and dark found in this passage is used throughout the play.
