She hath Dian’s wit;
And, in strong proof of chastity well arm’d,
From love’s weak childish bow she lives unharm’d.

– William Shakespeare

Romeo and Juliet, Act 1, Scene 1. Romeo reveals how Rosaline has broken up with him because she is choosing a life of celibacy. The passage contains an allusion to Diana, the Greek goddess of hunting and chastity. The last line includes both allusion and metaphor, as we hear that Rosaline is not easily pierced by Cupid’s love arrows.
