I am no longer surprised at your knowing only six accomplished women. I rather wonder now at your knowing any.

– Jane Austen

Pride and Prejudice, Chapter 8. After hearing the high standards Darcy and Caroline Bingley require for an "accomplished" woman, Elizabeth gently pokes fun at them. The quick-witted Elizabeth is not afraid to challenge Darcy, saying she is surprised that he knows any accomplished woman because of the high standards and skills he expects. Here Austen is criticizing the level of expectations from women in her society as being unreasonable and unfair.
