Pride and Prejudice, Chapter 2. There is irony in what Mrs. Bennet says about Mrs. Long. Despite calling the village gossip selfish and a hypocrite, Mrs. Bennet maintains she does not have an opinion of her. She obviously does, and it’s negative one at that.
