Othello, Act 1, Scene 2. Othello is proud of his character and his position of general in the Venetian army. He believes that he has acted with honor and is a fitting husband for Desdemona. It is Othello’s male pride combined with his susceptibility to manipulation (by Iago) that eventually leads to his downfall.
