King Lear, Act 1, Scene 3. After the division of Lear’s kingdom, the King spends the first part of his retirement at Goneril’s castle. But nobody is playing happy families. A frustrated Goneril bitterly complains to her steward Oswald that her father is offending her day and night, every hour causing some offense that has the fighting. This sets the scene for some family conflict ahead.
