This speech of yours hath moved me,
And shall perchance do good.

– William Shakespeare

King Lear, Act 5, Scene 3. Even inside the play’s great villain Edmund, there is a beating heart of sorts. He says that he is moved to pity by his brother Edgar’s description of their father Gloucester’s death. He predicts that it may end up doing some good – foreshadowing the dying Edmund’s attempt the save the lives of Lear and Cordelia from hanging.
