King Lear, Act 1, Scene 5. The Fool is only half joking and wholly in earnest when he says this to Lear. He is criticizing the fact that Lear acted foolishly in giving his kingdom away. The quote also foreshadows that Lear will take the place of the Fool when he loses his wits and becomes a mad fool.
