Jane Eyre, Chapter 14. Jane says this to Rochester during a discussion they have on morality and redemption. Rochester has said that he wishes to reform after admitting to a shameful past. But he seems to have a broken moral compass and on his own cannot follow the right path. So he looks to the virtuous Jane to steer him on that path. She reminds him of his fallibility as a man.
