Great Expectations, Chapter 39. Estella is being very honest when she asks Pip if he wants her to “deceive and entrap” him in the matter of love. Estella cannot love anyone because of the way she was brought up, but Pip is hopelessly in love with her. While Estella is clearly warning him, we have the impression that Pip wants to deceived and entrapped by love.
