The Picture of Dorian Gray, Chapter 19. Lord Henry explains his theory of civilization. He believes that to be civilized, you just need to be either cultured or corrupt. This is how Dorian responds to him: "Culture and corruption…I have known something of both. It seems terrible to me now that they should ever be found together."
