The Canterbury Tales, The Pardoner’s Prologue. The Pardoner is supposed to be concerned with people’s spiritual wellbeing and helping them to salvation through the correction of sin. But here he admits that he has no interest in the souls of those he pardons. When they are dead, their souls may be off picking blackberries, he doesn’t care.
