The Canterbury Tales, The Knight’s Tale. Arcite has a hopeless case of lovesickness. Since he cannot see Emily, he says he is as good as dead and there is no remedy. This is foreshadowing of his death later on in the story as a result of his quest to see Emily again and be with her.
