Honey, would I be here if the man weren’t married?
– Tennessee Williams
A Streetcar Named Desire, Scene 4. Blanche believes that men, especially millionaires, are the answer to her problems. She tells Stella that if Shep Huntleigh weren’t married she would be with him instead of in New Orleans. This shows Blanche’s materialistic side, as well as her tendency towards fantasy and illusion, which Shep symbolizes.
