You spotted snakes with double tongue,
Thorny hedgehogs, be not seen;
Newts and blind-worms, do no wrong,
Come not near our fairy queen.

– William Shakespeare

A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Act 2, Scene 2. The fairies sing the queen Titania a soothing lullaby so that she has a restful sleep. It is a magical song to protect her from the dangers of poisonous snakes, hedgehogs, newts and blindworms. What is ironic is that a few minutes later Oberon comes and puts magic juice in her eyes and wishes her a terrible sleep and that she falls in love with a beast when she wakes up.
