Stallone steps back into ring with sixth 'Rocky Balboa' movie

"I wanted to show I had balls at age 60. Just because society says I'm old, doesn't mean I am. I'm pursuing happiness, even if it makes the people around me unhappy."

It goes to prove you can't put a good man down, especially when the man happens to be Rocky, alias Rambo, alias Sylvester Stallone.

Our quote from Stallone explains why he brought the character Rocky out of retirement to make the sixth and final instalment for the film Rocky Balboa.

Rocky 6 sees former heavyweight champion Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) stepping out of retirement and back into the ring, pitting himself against a new rival decades after his initial glory.

The latest Rocky incarnation, directed by Stallone, goes on general release on December 20.

In the movie a computer simulated boxing match declares Rocky Balboa victor over current champion Mason "The Line" Dixon. So the legendary fighter's passion and spirit are reignited.

But when his desire to fight in small, regional competitions is trumped by promoters calling for a rematch of the cyber-fight, Balboa has to weigh the mental and physical risks of a high profile exhibition match against his need to be in the ring.

Dedicated fans are said to be queuing up to see the return of Hollywood's most famous boxer fight one more fight.

The original Rocky movie was inspired by Stallone viewing a fight between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner. The idea of the underdog boxer going the distance and putting up a fierce fight against all odds appealed to Stallone. He wrote a screenplay, sold it to Hollywood and the rest is history.

The first Rocky (1976) told the rags-to-riches American Dream story of Italian-American Rocky Balboa. It was made for a low budget of $1.1 million.

It went on to make over $117.2 million. It scooped three Oscars, helped to launch Stallone's career, and went on to spawn four successful sequels.

The fifth sequel Rocky Balboa is rated PG for boxing violence and some language, Directed by Stallone, it was filmed on location in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Philadelphia.
